FRANK MOVE FG –8

INTRODUCTION:
The removal of oil, grease and other dirts from the surface of a metal component prior to such processes as Phosphating, Electroplating, Anodising, Laquering, Vitreous enamelling etc. can be carried out by a variety of methods of which the use of alkaline solution is one.
FRANK MOVES have been specially developed to degrease a variety of both ferrous and Non-ferrous metals by Immersion.
FRANK MOVE FG-8 can remove not only mineral oils and greases but also those of animal and Vegetable origin such as lanoline, palm oil, lard oil etc.

FRANK MOVE FG – 8
FRANK MOVE FG-8 is a heavy duty liquid cleaner and it has been developed for the degreasing of steel, iron, ferrous alloys, nickel, and in some cases for copper and brass. It attacks aluminium and its alloys and tinned or galvanised surfaces; therefore it should not be used for degreasing such materials unless the etching action is specially required.

FACTORS THAT AFFECT DEGREASING :
The strength of FRANK MOVE solution and the treatment time will vary with the type and quantum of contamination. While heavy and stubborn contamination is encountered, aprior solvent cleaning Either by manual wiping or immersion is advisable to reduce treatment time in FRANK MOVE bath. This may be necessary for certain pressings or stampings or where the rust preventive though light Is difficult to remove. Temperature plays an important part in efficient degreasing and maintenance Of operating temperature is therefore essential. At lower temperatures the efficiency of FRANK MOVE drops steeply and dereasing may not be complete, even if the treatment time is increased.

OPERATIONAL DETAILS (Suggested Guidelines on the Parameter)

FRANK MOVE FG - 8
Bath concentration : 3 to 5 % V/V
Points : 22 to 37
Temperature : 90 to 95°C.
Dip Time : 5 to 15 minutes

BATH MAKE – UP:
Fill up the tank to two-third of its level with water and heat it up to about 75°C. Add the required quantity of FRANK MOVE in instalments slowly agitating the bath all while. After the entire quantity of FRANK MOVE is added make up the volume with water and raise the temperature to about 90°C Stir the bath again and draw a sample for determining its points. Add further quantity of FRANK MOVE if required, to get the desired points. For stiring a long handled paddle or compressed air may be used.

RINSING :
Thorough rinsing in water must follow the cleaning in FRANK MOVE . After the cleaning in FRANK MOVE , the article should be allowed to drain for a few seconds to minimise the carry over into the rinse tank, but the time should not be long to allow the FRANK MOVE solution to dry on the parts. Rinsing either by dip or spray should be sufficient for complete removal of FRANK MOVE solution. The rinse tanks must be continuously over-flowing. If the degreased articles are required to be dry, these should receive a final rinse in hot water (90 to 95 °C) and a compressed air blow.

BATH MAINTENANCE
Determination of points (Strength)
1. Restore the bath volume with water and mix well.
2. Pipette 5 ml of the bath sample into the conical flask.
3. Add approximately 50 ml distilled water and 1 - 2 drops methyl orange indicator (0.1% solution).
4. Titrate with 0.1N Sulphuric or Hydrochloric acid contained in a burette, until the colour changes from yellow to red.
5. The burette reading is the Points.

REPLENISHMENT
Add 0.14 kg of FRANK MOVE to every 100 litres of the bath to raise the point by one.

NOTE
With use, the degreasing efficiency of FRANK MOVE will fall even though its points is at the recommended level. This is because a lot of the oil coming from the work, is emulsified in the solution and also some sludge is formed at the bottom. It is therefore advisable to discard the FRANK MOVE bath once every month and make up a fresh one.

EQUIPMENT :
The tanks for FRANK MOVE and subsequent rinses can be made of mild steel.

It is desirable to have always some agitation in FRANK MOVE bath so that there is a continuous movement of solution over the surface of the work. While this agitation is automatically achieved in spray washers the same can be obtained in a dip tank by the convection from a heating unit.
The surface of the FRANK MOVE bath should preferably be maintained free of floating oil and scum always. This can be arranged by having the FRANK MOVE tank with an overflow weir leading to a small separate compartment. The surface of the bath can then be kept clean by directing across it, from a point opposite the weir, a stream of FRANK MOVE solution pumped continuously from the over-flow compartment. A ball -float water supply valve should be fitted above the pump suction in the over-flow compartment so that evaporation losses are automatically replaced. The compartment must of courses, be big enough to hold the solution displaced by the introduction of a load of work.

HEATING :
Steam, gas, oil or electricity can be used for heating FRANK MOVE baths, mild steel sheathed immersion heaters of M.S. heating coils for steam and oil can be placed directly in the solution. Gas burners may be placed inside M.S tubes running across the tank about 150 mm above the bottom. A perforated false bottom is required to protect the burners. Lagging of the tank is advisable to reduce heat losses.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS :
FRANK MOVE FG-8 contains caustic soda and it attacks readily leather and wool but not cotton and rubber. Damage to the eyes and skin can be caused by the solid FRANK MOVE or by splashes of solution. The use of rubber aprons, sleeves, boots and goggles by operators while handling such solution is highly recommended.

TREATMENT IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS :
In case of an accident, the affected part whether it be the eye or skin, should be immediately flooded with water and then with saline solution (1 teaspoonful of common salt in 1 pint of warm water) for 5 minutes. In case of eye injury, the patient should be removed to the works medical room and the treatment continued for a further 20 minutes taking special care that the solution reaches the corners of the eye and inside of the eyelids. The eyes should be covered with clean dressing and the patient referred to a doctor. In case of skin injury, the affected part after 5 minutes flooding with saline solution should be covered with a sterile dressing and the patient referred to a doctor.

Hot solution may cause a heat burn but the above treatment should still be applied.

PACKING:
FRANK MOVE FG-8 are packed in 25 kgs H.D.P.E. bags. Partially used bags should be firmly Sealed and stored in a dry place.
